Red crab spider

Transcript

This spider has made an amazing web.

But why?

Well, for many spiders a web is their home but it’s also a trap!

The web is sticky and insects like flies often get stuck and become the spider’s dinner.

But who is this?

These legs belong to a red crab spider.

Look at all those eyes!

He lives on a strange looking plant called a pitcher plant.

The leaves of the pitcher plant are slippery and insects often fall off the leaves and into the plant.

They fall into a pool of water at the bottom and can’t climb back out.

But here comes the red crab spider. He has legs that don't slip, so he can climb safely into the plant.

Is he here to save the ant?

No, he’s here to eat it!

The red crab spider doesn’t live on a web.

He lives on the pitcher plant and this gives him all the food he needs.
